Women waiting for IVF in Victoria will still face delays after procedures resume

ABC

The medical director of a fertility clinic has welcomed the Victorian government's decision to allow IVF procedures to resume but warns waiting lists are growing. Key points: Hospitals will scale up their operations to enable IVF procedures to resume from mid-next week The government lifted its suspension because specialist fertility staff are not integral to the pandemic response Regional services welcome the move but warn access to hospital theatre staff will still limit procedures IVF treatments were halted as part of a three-month suspension of non-urgent elective surgeries in response to the Omicron wave. Waiting list already growing Dr Dalton said many women in regional Victoria had already experienced delays of about a month with their IVF treatment. "While everyone in principle would really like to help managing the pandemic, the skill base of people within the IVF industry is highly specialised and they really would be of limited value working within acute pandemic environments in the health system," Dr Dalton said.
