Tonnes of wet wipe fatbergs clogging Launceston pipes each month

ABC

Tasmania's embattled water authority TasWater has made an impassioned plea to stop the drain on finances caused by so-called fatbergs and stick to the "four-P principle", flushing only "pee, poo, puke and paper". TasWater's Royce Aldred said it was well documented that wet wipes did not break down but the organisation had done its own experiment to enforce the point. "It could mean that a pipe actually ruptures or a manhole pops, or the water backs up into a pump station and overflows in to a creek or onto land," he said. TasWater is urging residents to take on board the "four-P principle" — only flushing "pee, poo, puke and paper".
