Death sentence for 38 convicted in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial bomb blast case

A Special Court has today sentenced to death 38 of the 49 convicted in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial bomb blasts under provisions in the Unlawful Activities Act and Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. On February 8, Judge Patel had convicted 49 out of the 78 under sections of the IPC, which included murder, sedition and waging war against the state. As many as 21 bombs exploded in various parts of Ahmedabad on July 26, 2008. An email sent by the Indian Mujahideen to television channels a few hours before the bombs exploded claimed responsibility for the attack.
