Manmohan Singh at India Today Conclave '07: 'India in midst of exciting things that often go unnoticed'

India Today

“India is one of the forerunners in showing the world the way forward in dealing with one of the biggest challenges facing humankind in the modern world. This is the challenge of preventing the so-called ‘clash of civilisations’ and enabling not just a ‘dialogue’ between civilisations but creating a ‘confluence of civilisations’,” said Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at the India Today Conclave 2007 in New Delhi. Dr Singh’s keynote address was followed by an insightful interaction with INDIA TODAY Editor-in-Chief Aroon Purie and INDIA TODAY Editor Prabhu Chawla: Q. If you had asked me this question five years back, I could not have imagined that our investment rate would rise to 34 per cent of our GDP, that our savings rate would rise to about 32 per cent of our GDP and given the young profile of our labour force, in the years to come, India’s savings rate will rise very substantially. The policy on Special Economic Zone was supposed to take India to the brave new world where we could take on the manufacturing might of China.
