Ambedkar row: DMK, allies protest across Tamil Nadu, demand Amit Shah's removal
India TodayThe Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Thursday staged statewide protests in Tamil Nadu condemning Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on Dr BR Ambedkar, demanding his removal from the Cabinet for at least six months. The protests, held across Tamil Nadu, featured DMK cadres holding portraits of Ambedkar while demanding Shah’s resignation. She captioned the image, “Jai Bhim!” Speaking to reporters, DMK’s organization secretary RS Bharati said, “If Prime Minister Narendra Modi has faith in democracy, Shah should be dropped from the Union Cabinet for at least six months.” He added that Shah must apologise for his remarks, which the DMK considers disrespectful to Ambedkar’s legacy. The protests follow Amit Shah’s controversial remarks during a debate on the Constitution in Rajya Sabha, where he stated, “It has become a fashion to repeatedly say Ambedkar’s name.
