Veteran Liberal MP Russell Broadbent loses Monash preselection battle to Mary Aldred
ABCLong-serving MP for the federal seat of Monash Russell Broadbent has lost his preselection battle to Mary Aldred, a government relations executive at Fujitsu. Key points: Mary Aldred received 161 out of 193 first-round votes Russell Broadbent held the seat for 19 years Ms Aldred grew up in a political household and has experience as an executive Mr Broadbent has held the safe Liberal seat of Monash for the last 19 years, but at the last election, his margin fell to 2.9 per cent. "Today has been a tremendous honour and a great privilege, with the confidence invested in me by local party branch members, and I will work my hardest to make a compelling case as the Liberal candidate for Monash at the next election," she said. In a statement issued after today's result, Victorian Liberal Party president Philip Davis described Ms Aldred as "a powerful local advocate who has vast experience across community volunteer organisations and the business sector".
