Tracking Screen Time Is Ruining Your Life

Wired

A few years ago, I was sitting with my friends from high school one night when the topic of our tracked screen time came up. Apple introduced Screen Time as a built-in app in 2018 with the release of iOS 12, after major investors requested a tool that would help the company consider the effects of screen time on children’s mental health. But for all the research into the effects of prolonged screen time on young people, it’s not so easy to find data on how this impacts adults. In fact, there doesn’t seem to be any official guideline from experts on how much screen time is considered excessive for adults. What they don’t tell you is where exactly to draw the line between healthy phone use and screen time so excessive it will ruin your life.
