Madurai, Coimbatore metro rail projects expedited: CMRL Director

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited has submitted the clarifications sought by the Centre on the detailed project report for the Madurai and Coimbatore metro rail projects, CMRL Director T. Archunan said. The Tamil Nadu government had taken up metro rail for Madurai and Coimbatore as a single project, and the combined DPR was submitted to the Centre three weeks ago. While the 31.9-km-long metro rail between Tirumangalam and Othakadai in Madurai costs ₹11,300 crore, the Coimbatore project for a length of 34.5 km costs ₹10,700 crore. Mr. Archunan said Madurai and Coimbatore had qualified for metro rail based on their peak-hour traffic demand.
