Beef crisis in Goa this Christmas as Quraishi traders go on strike over cow vigilantes
India TodayGoa is facing a beef supply crisis this Christmas, as traders in the state with a substantial Christian population have gone on a strike to protest against an alleged increase in instances of cow vigilantism. In a letter to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the Quraishi Meat Traders Association alleged that there was a rise in the number of attacks by right-wing Hindu organisations on shops selling beef. TRADERS FROM OTHER STATES REFUSE TO SUPPLY BEEF TO GOA Shabbir Bepari, Vice President of QMTA, emphasised that shops cannot operate without adequate stock. SOME GOANS ALLEGE GOVT BEING LENIENT WITH COW VIGILANTES Chief Minister Pramod Sawant attempted to allay concerns, stating on December 23 that the state-run Goa Meat Complex Limited would meet the beef demand.
