'CBI is heavily compromised': Maha govt seeks probe by SIT in Anil Deshmukh case, agency opposes
India TodayThe Maharashtra government has filed a plea in the Bombay High Court seeking a probe by a special investigation team in the case pertaining to former state home minister Anil Deshmukh. While the Maharashtra government argued in court that “the CBI is heavily compromised and the citizens of the country deserve a free and fair probe into the case”, the CBI opposed the plea and said it was an “attempt to derail the probe”. MAHARASHTRA GOVT SEEKS SIT PROBE The government, while seeking the constitution of an SIT under a retired high court judge, stated that CBI director and former Director General of Police Subodh Jaiswal was part of the Police Establishment Board that was overseeing the transfers and postings of the police officers in question. Senior counsel Darius Khambata, representing Maharashtra, said that as the CBI probe was affecting the entire state police force, the state had filed its plea under the parens patriae jurisdiction.
