Eco-tourism to promote local tribal produce in Erode

The Hindu

District Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara recently inspected the eco-tourism shop, vertical farming initiative and tribal huts, established at the MYRADA centre in Arepalayam, near Hasanur, on Kollegal Main Road in the hill area. Aimed at promoting local tribal produce and raising awareness about sustainable agriculture, ICAR – Krishi Vigyan Kendra, MYRADA, Gobichettipalayam, launched the “My Dhimbam Eco-Tourism,” project with funding from NABARD in September 2024. The shop features tribal crafts, value-added millet-based products and items created by entrepreneurs, including honey, and other farm produce. Traditional instruments used by tribal communities from the hamlets of Kottadai, Kuliyada and Bejalatti, were identified, and cultural teams comprising young and elderly members were formed to perform during various occasions.
