Commuters could be riding light rail to the edge of Lake Burley Griffin as soon as 2023, but the ACT Government has warned getting trams over Canberra's watery centrepiece may take much longer than that. Stage 2A would likely add three new stops after the existing route from Gungahlin to Civic — City West, West Basin and Commonwealth Park. The Woden Valley Community Council welcomed the decision to commence construction of stage two, but president Fiona Karrick said she still held concerns the project might never make it to the Woden town centre.
