Power from waste plan gathers pace

Rajahmundry: A waste-to-energy plant is to be set up near Samalkot in East Godavari to generate power from nearly 500 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day under public-private-partnership mode. The East Godavari administration identified nearly 10 acres site near Samalkot to set up the plant. As per norms, it requires nearly 20 acres site with five acres for the plant and the remaining 15 acres for scientific filling of land as some waste material gets generated during the processing of solid waste in the waste-to-energy plant. Swachh Andhra Corporation authorities say that nearly 500 tonnes of solid waste will be collected from 10 civic bodies in East Godavari per day.
