NCERT to review syllabus and textbooks with aim to reduce burden on students

On December 15, Sridhar Srivastava, the National Council of Educational Research and Training director in charge wrote a letter to the heads of departments of the council. In his letter, Srivastava mentioned that keeping in view the disruptions hit by Covid19, NCERT plans to make a ‘’speedy recovery’’ in students’ learning from the next academic year. He added that NCERT should “take a step towards rationalisation of its syllabi and textbooks for the next year across the stages.” The exercise would be carried out for Classes 6 to 12. The NEP 2020 states that reduction in content, increased flexibility of school curriculum and renewed emphasis on constructive rather than rote learning, must be accompanied by changes in school textbooks.
