Morrisons and Asda slash prices in battle for spending-struck shoppers

Morrisons and Asda have revealed a string of price cuts as the supermarkets position themselves as the cheapest option during the cost of living crisis. Morrisons is slashing the cost of more than 500 items, or around 6pc of its range, with prices set to fall on cereal, rice, eggs and coffee to fall by an average 13pc. The average price discount across all of the items in Asda's deal will be 12pc, with the price of John West tuna set to fall by 14pc to £3 and the price of own-brand rice falling by 25pc to £1 for 500g. The price of a 30-pack of Morrisons' own-brand eggs will fall from £3.40 to £2.99, while the price of a 430g pack of diced beef will fall from £3.99 to £3.59.
