What does a US recession mean for the global economy?

The Telegraph

The United States has entered a recession after a surprise contraction during the second quarter of the year. It followed a 1.6pc annualised decline in the first quarter – marking two quarters of negative growth. That is a so-called technical recession, and almost anywhere in the world would likely be recorded as an official recession. The US works a little differently, with the ‘official’ designation of a recession handled by experts at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a non-profit based in Massachusetts. Jason Furman, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics and former adviser to Barack Obama, puts an “over 50pc” chance on one of the readings being revised back to growth territory.
