Bombay HC grants Maharashtra govt 2 weeks to justify early release for Sanjay Dutt in 1993 blast case

Sanjay Dutt was released eight months early, on account of his good conduct while in Yerwada prison. Mumbai: The Bombay High Court granted two weeks’ time to the Maharashtra government to file an affidavit to justify its decision to grant actor Sanjay Dutt early release from prison in the 1993 serial bomb blasts case on 3 July 2017. A division bench of Justices R M Savant and Sadhana Jadhav had last month directed the state government to file an affidavit explaining the grounds on which Dutt was granted early remission. Additional public prosecutor Prajakta Shinde today told the High Court that state Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni would appear in the matter, and sought time to file the affidavit.
