'Allegation on me by Param Bir Singh had no basis': Anil Deshmukh after coming out of jail

Former Maharashtra Home Minister and NCP leader Anil Deshmukh, who walked out of a Mumbai jail after spending almost 13 months in prison in a money laundering case, said the accusations levelled against him by former Mumbai cop Param Bir Singh were false and had no basis. Days after he was shunted out as Mumbai police commissioner and transferred to the Home Guards in March this year, Param Bir Singh had claimed in a letter to former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray that Anil Deshmukh, the then home minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, used to ask police officers to collect money from restaurant and bar owners in Mumbai. The other policeman Sachin Waze’s equations with Singh are known to all and Waze has murder charges and was for a long time suspended from the department," Anil Deshmukh said. Last month, Param Bir Singh's lawyer had told the inquiry commission that the allegations his client made against Anil Deshmukh were based on information provided to him by other officers.
