Her daughter quit the school newsletter after a boy made a perplexing joke. Now she needs advice.
SlateSlate Plus members get more Care and Feeding every week. You’d get a series of 10-20 statements, all that can be graded as true or false, which would be something like “Statements 5, 11, and 17 are all true”, and try to work out a set of values that fits everything without a contradiction. December’s issue had a simple, two point paradox “puzzle:” 1) Statement number 2 is true. Claire, on the other hand, has been treating this puzzle like it’s a personal betrayal and wants nothing more to do with the newsletter, nothing to do with Adam, and sometimes asks me to transfer her to another school. If she goes through life letting little things like this cause her to make big decisions, she’ll be letting other people control her destiny.
