The Giants should have re-signed Kevin Gausman, but it’s more complicated than that

The Giants have the seventh-best record in baseball. Last night, the Giants’ lineup scored more runs off Kevin Gausman than the Blue Jays scored off the entire Giants pitching staff. Yet one of the main takeaways from Monday’s game is that, hot dang, it sure would have been cool if the Giants still had Gausman. The Giants’ choice was one Gausman for five years, or two effective starting pitchers for a shorter period of time, plus a both-cheeks swing for a high-risk, high-reward pitcher like Carlos Rodón.
