A low-pressure system over the Southeast Bay of Bengal has developed into a deep depression, according to the India Meteorological Department. The depression is crossing near Rameswaram and Thoothukudi in the Gulf of Mannar, triggering heavy rainfall across Tamil Nadu on the night of December 11. MORE RAINFALL FOR INTERIOR DISTRICTS On Thursday morning, dense clouds were reported over coastal areas, including Chennai and Thoothukudi, as well as interior regions such as the Delta and Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. Rain activity is expected to shift towards interior districts, with heavy rainfall forecast in the Delta and southern regions by Friday. Meteorologist Pradeep John highlighted that the low-pressure system moving towards the Gulf of Mannar will bring intense rainfall to southern Tamil Nadu over the next two days.
