HC notice on plea for CBI probe into illegal phone tapping by Anvar

The Kerala High Court on Friday issued notice to the State government and Nilambur legislator P.V. Anvar on a writ petition seeking a CBI probe into the alleged illegal tapping of phones by the MLA. He pointed out that the MLA had publicly admitted to having intercepted telephone conversation of individuals including police officials, politicians and the petitioner. The MLA’s act violated the fundamental right to privacy and freedom of speech and also violated the provisions of the Indian Telegraph Act, Information Technology Act and Official Secrets Act, the petitioner submitted. The MLA had claimed that he did the tapping to expose crimes committed by higher police officials in collusion with political higher ups.
