Bengal vocalists leave audience spellbound with classical music

As Shatavisha Mukherjee concluded her concert with the bhajan ‘Ek sur charachara chayo re’, she was in a way depicting the mood of the audience, who were spellbound with her hour-long vocal recital at the Vivekananda auditorium of Ramakrishna Mutt in Mangaluru on Sunday. Singing for the first time in Mangaluru, Ms. Mukherjee began her concert with the composition “Bajo Re” in Raag Miyan Ki Todi, a morning raag, set to slow-paced Vilambit Jhoomra taal. First was “Naiyann Mori” set to slow-paced Vilambit Ektaal, followed by “Mera Mana Hara Leeno” set to medium-paced Madhyalay Ektaal, and “Saachi Kahat Hai” set to fast-paced Drut Teental. He then presented “Jaavun Mein Topi Balihari” in Raag Brindavani Sarang set to fast-paced Drut Teental. Mr. Mukherjee ended his concert with bhajan “Hari Om Tat Sat Maha Mantra Hai”, which was originally sung by Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan.
