Kerala Assembly: Opposition accuses LDF government of neglecting paddy farmers, stages walkout

The Opposition Congress-led UDF walked out of the Kerala Assembly in protest on Monday accusing the ruling LDF government of neglecting paddy farmers and taking the side of mill owners in the paddy procurement process. The Opposition alleged that the government is supporting mill owners and their agents in pressuring farmers into accepting procurement discounts for lifting their harvested paddy. After the Kerala High Court increased the out-turn ratio from 64.5% to 68%, mill owners are particular about quality, Mr. Anil said. Mr. Jacob and Mr. Satheesan also slammed the government for keeping the paddy procurement price unchanged at ₹28.20 per kg.
