Talking about Modi’s vision for the Indian Railways as well as telecom technology capabilities, Vaishnaw said the prime minister has stressed on an “Atmanirbhar” India. “PM Modi has categorically mandated that in every important technology, we have to be atmanirbhar, be it railways or telecom,” Vaishnaw said during a conversation with India Today Group editorial director Raj Chengappa and deputy editor Anilesh Mahajan. In the coming 12 months, you will see BSNL as a healthy company that has a significantly stabilising influence on the market.” About the possibility of the telecom sector being dominated by only two players in a possible “duopoly”, Vaishnaw said there will be more competition as telecom is now being viewed as “sunrise sector” owing to reforms by the Modi government.
