ABCDozens of new laws will come into force after a late-night scramble by the government to tick off most of its to-do list in a single night. The laws also clarify complainants may publish self-identifying information, or give consent for others to do so — an issue brought to prominence by former Australian of the Year Grace Tame. The new laws also enable the government to pay another country in order to accept the cohort, many of whom have previously committed serious violent offences. Commonwealth payment surcharges stopped The government has blocked surcharges from being passed on by the Australian Tax Office and Services Australia after learning that some government agencies had been unlawfully collecting merchant fee charges. The laws allow the government to continue existing surcharges lawfully, but while a review is underway, debit surcharges from the ATO and Services Australia won't be passed on.
