
MoEF panel asks AP to restore RLIS site to pre-construction stage
The HinduHYDERABAD In a big relief for Telangana in safeguarding the interests of farmers and other habitants in the drought-prone areas of the Krishna Basin, the Expert Appraisal Committee of the Ministry of Environment and Forests & Climate Change has recommended restoration of the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme site to pre-construction stage. The undertaking shall state that no work has been done beyond the purpose of preparation of the detailed project report along with a comprehensive report to the Ministry on the actions taken for site restoration, including photographic evidence, restoration methods and a timeline of the activities. The Minister’s office stated that the State Government has been continuously making efforts at every level and forum to stall the ongoing construction of RLIS, including NGT, MoEF & CC, Ministry of Jal Shakti, KWDT-II, and Supreme Court. Both the Minister for Irrigation and Principal Secretary have written to the Secretary of MoEF&CC on construction of RLIS with a request not to grant EC to protect the legitimate claims of Telangana people in the Krishna Basin.
