27 arrested, 14 in judicial custody in Kerala Dalit girl sexual assault case

After an 18-year-old Dalit athlete came forward to report being subjected to prolonged sexual assault over five years, 23 persons were arrested, and four minor detained, the police said on Sunday. The cases were registered based on the statements given by the girl, revealed a statement released by the office of Pathanamthitta District Police chief. A special investigation team has been formed to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident, with Pathanamthitta Deputy Superintendent of Police PS Nandakumar leading the team under the supervision of District Police Chief VG Vinod Kumar, the release said. The District Police Chief will review the investigation’s progress daily, the release said.
