Outback community plagued by power outages causing permanent damage to white goods

In short: One powerline running more than 700km supplies electricity to the outback Queensland town of Thargomindah. "We lost equipment … our main freezer," Thargomindah roadhouse owner Tamie Warner said. "The windings on your white goods' motors can't actually handle the higher current," Charleville electrician Daniel Bruce explained. "When the power goes out in town, we also lose the exchange after a few hours, so then we can't operate the shop either," Ms Warner said. "We've recently upgraded our Thargomindah sites to also allow local authorities to plug in a generator if the area is affected by an extended power outage," Ms Boisen said.
