Andhra Pradesh: High Flood Alert at Prakasam Barrage

Vijayawada: The Krishna river is in spate as over 9.94 lakh cusecs of water is being discharged from Prakasam barrage downstream into the sea here at 10 pm on Monday. The water resources authorities said they were getting an inflow of 9.94 lakh cusecs of water from upstream projects forcing them to lift all 70 gates to release water downstream. Water level in the Godavari river rose steadily and over five lakh cusecs of water was discharged from Sir Arthur Cotton barrage at Dowleswaram into the sea on Sunday evening. The water resources authorities say that by Monday morning, the discharge is expected to be 6.5 lakh cusecs given huge inflow of water into the river from upstream.
