Reconsider rationalisation decision: TSR
Member of Parliament and Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology and Environment and Forests T. Subbarami Reddy had in a fax message to the Railway Board Chairman Vinay Mittal sought his intervention for neutralising the adverse impact of the latest railway policy decision rationalising carriage of goods by certain routs on the two ports, Visakhapatnam Port Trust and Gangavaram Port. In his memorandum Subbarami Reddy pointed out that the logical route for carrying cargo by rail between Visakhapatnam and Delhi via Raipur, as it is the shortest distance and the railway's norm is to charge on the basis of shortest distance between two points, irrespective of the actual route taken. Due to the new policy, the cargo generated through VPT and the Gangavaram Port is forced to move via the longer route.
