Resilience, an Inspiring Aspect of Palestinian Psychology, Shows Pranav Reddy’s ‘Occupied’
The HinduPublished : Feb 20, 2025 15:40 IST - 10 MINS READ Hyderabad-based filmmaker Pranav Pingle Reddy’s five-part, long-form, documentary Occupied was recently screened in Bengaluru as part of a citizen-led initiative to spark a discussion on the Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. Though the film was released five years ago, it remains relevant today, focusing on young Palestinian artists who resist the occupation of their land while celebrating their lives, loves, and hopes. Among the artists featured are songwriter Shadi Zaqtan, mural artist Hamza Abu Ayyash, poet Nabil Barham, the rap group Sa’aleek, recyclable artist Ala Hilo, political tour guide Baha Hilo and ballet dancer Rand Ziad. A few years after I returned from England, where I studied film and television production at the University of Bristol, I noticed a significant shift in India’s political climate, particularly in my hometown, Hyderabad.
