VACB launches verification on complaint against GCDA in stadium mishap
The HinduThe Ernakulam unit of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has launched a verification into a complaint about the alleged role of the Greater Cochin Development Authority and its officials in the mishap during a mass dance event at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kaloor, during which Uma Thomas, MLA, fell from a temporary stage and sustained serious injuries last December. The Right to Information activist Cheshire Tarzan had lodged a complaint with the Ernakulam unit of the VACB seeking a probe into the alleged conspiracy and corruption involving GCDA Chairman K. Chandran Pillai and the officials concerned in renting out the stadium for a non-sporting event. He had released documents showing that the GCDA had rented out the stadium to Mridanga Vision, organisers of the mass dance event, disregarding a file note by its estate superintendent. The Ernakulam unit of the VACB had forwarded the complaint to the VACB director, who had since then sanctioned a ‘verification’ to ascertain whether it warranted an investigation.
