NHL Trade Deadline Big Board 2.0: John Klingberg, Claude Giroux and 28 others who could be dealt
New York TimesWelcome to the NHL trade deadline big board 2.0, and let’s begin with a word of thanks to Flames’ GM Brad Treliving and his Canadiens’ newly appointed counterpart, Kent Hughes, for getting the ball rolling ahead of the March 21 trade deadline. That’s the yin/yang of this year’s trade deadline: On the one hand, wanting to get a player in sooner rather than later so they can get used to new surroundings before the playoffs begin. Recently, Fleury acknowledged that a) a trade out of Chicago is possible, though it isn’t something he wants to consider until much closer to the deadline, and b) ideally, he would like to play one more season beyond this one before pondering retirement. It hasn’t been a great year for him thus far in Ottawa – 15 points in his first 47 games – but he’s only 27, and earning a modest $2 million entering his UFA season.
