Lorry owner fined for carrying load beyond the permitted limit in Erode

The Hindu

A lorry owner was fined ₹20,500 for exceeding the height restriction while carrying a load at the Bannari check post on Monday. The district administration had in 2018 issued a notification restricting vehicle dimensions on the Dhimbam Ghat Road to a maximum height of 4.2 metres and width of 3.3 metres to address frequent traffic disruptions caused by overloaded vehicles breaking down on the road. As a result, height restriction bars were installed at the Forest Department’s check posts at Bannari and Karapallam, near Hasanur, preventing trucks exceeding the specified height from passing through. A lorry transporting bundles of beedi leaves from Karnataka to Tirunelveli attempted to pass through the barrier at Bannari but was unable to proceed due to its excess height.
