Lakers’ priority: Slow down Nikola Jokic to win Game 1 and grab control of series
LA TimesNuggets center Nikola Jokic and Lakers forward Anthony Davis will be in the spotlight Tuesday night when the Western Conference finals opener is played in Denver. Both series wins followed the same path, a win in Game 1 to take control followed by wins in the Lakers’ three games in Los Angeles. “I just think the hunger, the excitement to get started with a new journey and us knowing we pretty much won’t have home-court advantage at all in the playoffs,” Ham said of the Lakers’ playoff fate. “I don’t even want to think about if we would have had to go play that Game 7 in San Francisco yesterday,” Ham said. “…You get tired a lot faster than you would if you wasn’t in it.” The Lakers and Nuggets met in the 2020 West finals, and though the rosters are wildly different, the stars — James and Davis, Jokic and All-Star guard Jamal Murray — are the same.
