Parliamentary panel gives Twitter 2 days to explain why it locked accounts of RS Prasad, Shashi Tharoor

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology on Tuesday asked Twitter to explain the grounds on which it temporarily locked profiles of Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on June 26. Sources say referring to Twitter's decision to temporarily lock Ravi Shankar Prasad's account on Saturday, the committee members asked Facebook if it too could take a similar step. LOCKING ACCOUNTS On Saturday, Twitter temporarily locked Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad's personal account over an alleged violation of US copyright laws. Hitting out at Twitter, Ravi Shankar Prasad termed the action "arbitrary" and a "gross violation of India's IT rules" as Twitter had failed to give hum prior notice before denying access to his account.
