Painting, whitewashing concludes at Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal
Painting and whitewashing work at the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal was completed on Friday, concluding the Allahabad High Court-mandated renovation process that began earlier this week. The high court had given a week’s deadline and we are confident that the work will be finished within the stipulated time,” Masood Farooqui, the secretary of the mosque committee, said. It has been done in the middle of a legal tussle over the Mughal-era mosque, following an application in the local court claiming that the Shahi Jama Masjid was built over an ancient Hindu temple. The local court ordered a survey leading to violence on November 24, the second day of the survey, as protesters gathered near the mosque and clashed with U.P.
