Daily MailA kindergarten has cancelled Mother's and Father's Day celebrations and renamed the holiday 'Family Day' in a bid to be more inclusive. 'We won't be holding titled celebrations like Mother's Day or Father's Day but we will have a fabulous Family Day celebration.' Parents at St Helena Preschool in Eltham North were sent an email notifying them that Mother's and Father's Day would be renamed to 'Family Day' in 2025 ECMS CEO chief executive Kieran Kearney said change 'is hard for everyone' and insisted Family Day would be more inclusive than Mother's and Father's Day 'This isn't just a micro issue, this is recognising that family means different things to different people in different communities,' Mr Kearney told 7News. It comes after several early learning centres replaced gender-centric words like 'mother' and 'father' with non-gendered words like 'parents', 'special person' and 'family' 'It's not an exclusive biological mother and father thing.
