The hot dry Santa Ana winds can fuel wildfires in Southern California, but they start as a cool breeze over a Nevada desert. But for as fast as the blaze moved, firefighters said it could have been so much worse if the Santa Ana winds had been blowing. Santa Ana winds pose a fire danger every year. “If we see a weather pattern developing, we have a process in place to let know and give them as much a head’s up as possible.” Santa Ana winds are more of a problem in some years than others.
