is PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan a fair tool to assess school education?

The Hindu

The PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan, a nationwide sample-based educational survey, will be conducted across schools in India on December 4. The survey will be conducted for Classes 3, 6 and 9 to test the Foundational, Preparatory, and Middle Stages aligned with the objectives of National Education Policy 2020. Revathi R., Managing Trustee, Vanavil Trust, which works to educate children from nomadic communities, says that a national-level survey in a country like India, which is so diverse geographically and functions across various boards, the pedagogy of which changes from urban to rural areas, will be troublesome. Ms. Maalathi says while the survey aims to understand educational standards, students will be baffled by this kind of examination as there is no standardised curriculum or pedagogy which is implemented across the country. There are four major areas of focus for PARAKH: Capacity Development in Competency Based Assessment, Large-Scale Achievement Survey, Equivalence of School Boards, Holistic Progress Cards for the Foundational, Preparational, Middle and Secondary Stages.
