After almost a decade of friendship, Emily and Kate have been through a lot together. "Kate and I entered into this arrangement with an enthusiastic respect for each other's boundaries," Emily says. "With the property we have purchased, I am able to plant native species and to hopefully grow enough food to feed the two of us," Kate says. "Like many queer people, my journey towards home ownership hasn't been as straightforward as that of many heteronormative people," she says. Kate and Emily's advice to people considering buying property with a friend "You do need a relationship where you are very comfortable talking about your boundaries … that's essential," Kate says.
