Kerala Excise minister: Congress blocking brewery to protect business interests
India TodayKerala Excise Minister MB Rajesh hit out at Congress in the state saying it was opposed to the proposed brewery unit in Palakkad because currently, the companies bringing spirit to Kerala from Karnataka were owned by Congress leaders there and they don’t want a brewery unit here. The Excise Minister was responding to Opposition leader VD Satheesan’s claim that the decision to allow a Madhya Pradesh-based firm start a brewery unit in Palakkad was taken by the Chief Minister and the Excise Minister without consulting the government or the Left Front. “Only the excise minister needed to know, but took it to the cabinet as a decision,” Rajesh argued, saying the cabinet note was posted on the government website, proving transparency. The state cabinet’s nod to the project, led by Oasis Commercial Private Limited based out of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, to start a brewery unit in Palakkad has seen stiff protest from the state Congress.
