Global appeal

New Delhi: With A. R. Rahman’s musical genius gaining recognition worldwide, Indian music has reached another milestone in its long global journey that started more than 50 years ago. 1ac872d0-0662-11de-b39f-000b5dabf636.flvPeter Lavezzoli, who has traced this journey in his book “Bhairavi - The Global Impact of Indian Music”, says the next stage has now arrived. “People are just now beginning more familiar with Indian film music and we see that with the recognition of the Oscars to A R Rahman”, says author Peter Lavezzoli. But some say that if Indian film music doesn’t keep firmly rooted in the Indian culture, it risks being diluted to something that isn’t traditionally Indian.
