Designers and artists say Perth is gearing up for a post-coronavirus public art 'explosion'

As art and creative industries grapple with the devastating impacts of COVID-19, there are bold predictions Perth could emerge as Australia's new street and public art capital in a post-coronavirus world. "You ain't seen nothing yet," said urban designer Peter Ciemitis, who is predicting a public art "explosion" in Perth. "In Perth, you can barely walk 100 metres without some expression of public art," Mr Ciemitis said. "There's some requirements around public art so it's not something that you buy that is mass produced — it has to be unique and it has to be provided by an artist." "My personal view is there's great examples and not such great examples of public art," he said.
