GPT-4 to Be Replaced by GPT-4o in ChatGPT, Says OpenAI

OpenAI has announced that GPT-4, the AI model launched two years ago, will be retired from ChatGPT on April 30, 2025. According to a changelog posted by the company, GPT-4 will be fully replaced by GPT-4o, OpenAI’s new multimodal model. “Recent upgrades have further improved GPT‑4o’s instruction following, problem solving, and conversational flow, making it a natural successor to GPT‑4.” GPT-4 was OpenAI’s first widely deployed model with multimodal capabilities, launched in March 2023 for use in ChatGPT and Microsoft’s AI assistant, Copilot. GPT-4 is also at the center of several copyright lawsuits against OpenAI, including one filed by The New York Times.
