My Kitchen Rules star Matt Moncrieff calls on supermarkets to stock more native Australian products
ABCShould major supermarkets feature a native-foods aisle, similar to the dedicated lanes for Asian, Mexican and other international cuisines? Moncrieff and best friend Kaitlin 'KT' Pisani this year became the first team in the Channel 7 show's history to compete on My Kitchen Rules while cooking largely with native ingredients. Moncrieff said he had been "flooded" with questions about where to source native products for his recipes since his stint on the show ended. "This would be an incredible opportunity to celebrate our homegrown native ingredients, showcase our amazing Indigenous culture, provide jobs, and most importantly, confirm that Australian cuisine is traditional Aboriginal food," he said. Celebrity chef Mark Olive says it will take at least five years for native ingredients to be mainstream cupboard items "like Vegemite".
