She slammed, “I don’t know what’s more shameful - your level of ignorance or your insensitivity at display here?” Shrinate informed, “Madam Minister, a country’s Global Hunger Index is very heavily based on 4 indicators- Undernourishment, Child Stunting, Child Wasting, and Child Mortality.” The index, unveiled on Thursday, also drew attention to India's highest child wasting rate globally, standing at a concerning 18.7%, indicative of severe undernutrition. According to the government release, the proportion of child wasting, as seen on its Poshan tracker, has been consistently below 7.2% month-on-month, as compared to 18.7% in the Global Hunger Index 2023.
