Mahalakshmi Layout to go for tried & tested?

BENGALURU: Mahalakshmi Layout has all the troubles of the city traffic congestion, poor garbage disposal, stray dogs and more with slums and the Vrishbhavathi valley adding to the woes of the people of this assembly constituency in Northwest Bengaluru. Not surprisingly, the constituency elected former legislator, K. Gopalaiah, who was with the JD both during the 2013 and 2018 assembly elections. Like Mr Gopalaiah he too enjoys a huge following here, having earned the people’s support as chairman of the BBMP’s Standing Committee on Taxation and Finance and as ruling party leader in its council. While the JD has fielded Girish K Nashi, a chartered accountant for the coming bypoll, the contest is clearly between the former legislator with his cult-like following in the constituency and Mr Shivaraj, who is also banking on his personal rapport with the people here to garner votes. But Mr Shivaraj is expected to give the former legislator a tough fight with top Congress leaders like Siddaramaiah, D K Shivakumar, and Priyank Kharge campaigning for him in the constituency.
