How three young engineers are giving India's linguistic diversity the AI edge

India Today

In November 2023, three young engineers—Siddharth Shankar Tripathi, Utkarsh Shukla and Kali—decided to tackle a pressing technological gap: the lack of sophisticated AI solutions tailored to India’s linguistic diversity. Tripathi, 28, with a dual degree in electrical and chemical engineering from BITS Pilani; Shukla, 27, a computer science graduate from Vellore Institute of Technology, and Kali, 29, a computer science graduate from IIT Hyderabad, brought together complementary skills to offer AI solutions to India’s multilingual population. Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Tripathi and Shukla bring a grounded understanding of the linguistic and cultural challenges faced by India’s heartland, shaping their mission to make technology accessible and inclusive for all. Shukla said to INDIA TODAY that building the technology was not without challenges, as developing AI models that could accurately capture accents, dialects and cultural subtleties required significant time and effort.
